Carols Ancient, Carols New

Carols Ancient, Carols New

Sat December 3, 2016 at 2:00 pm

The first carols were sung thousands of years ago in Europe and were first associated with the winter solstice. The term carol originally meant to dance, and ancient peoples would dance round stone circles to celebrate each of the four seasons. With the advent of Christianity, carols became part of Christmas celebrations. Our Christmas program this season explores the wealth of Christmas carols, both ancient and new, with new settings of traditional carols and modern reinterpretations of Medieval and Renaissance gems, including Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Es ist ein Ros entsprungen, Nova! Nova!, O Tannenbaum and Stille Nacht.
