Announcing Our Sixth Season!

IKON: October 16, 2010

Western music has long had a major influence on the world
music scene, yet in recent years music from Russia and the
Estonian countries has flooded listeners with another unique
voice. Our first program of our sixth season will begin with an
exploration of the exceptional and thrilling music from the East
– music of Sergi Rachmaninov, Henryk Górecki, Kryzsztof Pen-
derecki, and the world premier of Ivo
Antognini’s Jesu Dulcis Memoria.

Christmas by Candlelight: December 5, 2010

The Annual Holiday Concert at the historic Mission Basilica
has become a seasonal favorite with Orange County
audiences. Experience holiday favorites that are always
paired with Maestro Gray’s brilliant programming in what
has become one of the best holiday program in all of
Orange County. Another world premier on this program too
– Matthew Brown’s luminous setting of O magnum
mysterium.

Parisian Delights: March 5, 2011

There exists a relationship between great composers and the
City of Lights. This program brings listeners closer to Paris
during the time of these masters, providing an intimate look
at the vibrancy of Renaissance Paris paired with composers
from the 20th century. By following in their footsteps, we will
learn more about these composers and their art - a musical
museum tour of their innermost minds.

Nocturnes: May 14, 2011

Music that is inspired by, or evocative of, the night. Something
about the tranquil twilight that separates day from night has
inspired composers for generations. This concert will be an
evening of lighter enjoyment, much like a twilight stroll
through a garden of delight, tranquility for the soul and
refreshment for mind.

Angelis Vocal Ensemble for our first summer program.

Claudio, O Claudio

Saturday, March 6th, 2010 at 8:00pm

If one were to name the composer that stitches the seam between the Renaissance and the Baroque, it would likely be Claudio Monteverdi. So popular were his books of madrigals, a close friend of Monteverdi’s, Aquilino Coppini, replaced the secular texts with those of sacred verse. These works are charged with emotion – a sensuous world of passion and pain, original and innovative for the time and incredibly contemporary nearly four hundred years later.

The Annual Holiday Concert

By far the most popular of our programs, this year we will explore the wealth of Christmas music from our Canadian neighbors of the north. Featuring contemporary and classic Christmas music by Canada's best loved composers and arrangers, this program is always one of the best holiday experiences in Orange County.

The Road Home

Saturday, November 9th, 2009 at 8:00pm.

Early November marks the convergence of several dates both civic and sacred. The Feasts of All Saints, All Souls and Veterans Day all share a common theme of remembrance. This program is a celebration of these days and of the ones who have gone before us marked with a sign of peace. Herbert Howells’ Requiem is the cornerstone of this program – a work that was written as release and consolation upon the loss of Howell’s only son. We will honor our loved ones during this program, with a balm only music can provide.
